"People come and go. Nothing ever happens."

I figured on skipping the item about the ex-luxury Grande Hotel squat in Mozambique, since so many people will have seen it already on the front of Google News. However, there's a less obvious angle in the way David Pescovitz's nice writeup on BoingBoing drew more contempt than warmth from the normally thoughtful/bohemian/maker community on that blog.

Something in the topic of homelessness -- and, by extension, improvised or shantytown living quarters -- sets off American audiences' defensive reflexes.
