Ownership is such a relative concept

Somebody posted an auction notice for the Westin San Francisco hotel. Looking to find out who's responsible, SF Chron's Andrew Ross ran through about half a dozen corporate entities, including Goldman Sachs, and he still may not have arrived clearly at who owns the property or who claims to be foreclosing on it or whether the auction notice was serious business or just a negotiation gambit.

In the old days editors might have refused to run a story like that unless the writer could be sure who was on which end of what stick. I think I like the newer gonzo/blogger style, though. Sometimes the struggle to find out "just the facts" tells more of a story than the bare data.
