Fire at Franciscan Towers last night

SF Chron reports sad news: a big garbage-chute fire at the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation's Franciscan Towers SRO. That's one of the good subsidized buildings, out of a type that can be anywhere from pretty good to godawful. They had to evacuate all the tenants. Also TNDC headquarters and a kids' after-school program. At least the Chron reports TNDC managed to find temporary space in its other buildings for all the displaced tenants -- a feat that shows the quality of that operation as well as its size. Wishing everyone well tonight.
