St. Bernard Parish still fighting integration

Cripe, St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. They pass an anti-apartment law, and HUD counters it, and they pass another couple of laws, and HUD and/or private civil rights lawsuits stop that, and the parish tries something else... the Whack-A-Mole has been going on for nearly five years now. And now this week, with the latest anti-renter law dropped, the thuggish Parish President ordered work stopped anyway on the now-famous four mixed-income apartment buildings.

Why? Well, as the Times-Picayune delicately puts it, "St. Bernard officials and residents adamantly contend there is enough affordable rental housing in the parish and that additional units would change the parish's character." For character, it sounds like that place has nowhere to go but up.
