Yeah, about homeowner welfare

Further to my "self-sufficiency" rant yesterday, the Chron's Kathleen Pender has taken up a whole personal-finance column to explain the most basic tax incentives for homeowners. Not emergency aid, just the regular mortgage interest deduction and etceteras. Where's the grist for a column about tax incentives for renters?

Also, funny how homeownership is one of these statuses that people still view politically as a sign of "independence" but in fact, presuming mortgage debt, it puts you at the bottom of the food chain in terms of being at the mercy of.

Saying the obvious, OK, but I'm just saying.
