Habeas corpus in more danger than usual.

This indefinite-detention bill is plainly evil. I fail to see why any American would support a law allowing our own country, or anyone else's, to be defined as a "battlefield" from which any civilian, whether citizen or not, could be taken and imprisoned forever. No trial, no charge, no end to the ordeal. What the hell? What country is this anyway?

The particular evil represented by indefinite imprisonment is a big reason why folks in the eighteenth century invented democracy in the first place. For that matter it's a big reason why folks in the thirteenth century and previously invented the rule of law. The farther this proposal gets the less civilized we can claim to be. Call your Senator.

Yeah, this belongs on this blog. Indefinite detention is a place where people sleep.
