Jocelyn Ford's film-in-progress, "Zanta", is about a brave Tibetan woman making a life for herself and her son in the teeth of both village and urban expectations, and drawing a foreign journalist into her story.
The filmmaker, now a distinguished China-based correspondent, grew up in my childhood neighborhood, so I have a personal reason for knowing about her project, but this is not special pleading. The film is going to be amazing.
More info at her Kickstarter, which has already succeeded. Also, Zanta herself is selling her hand-knotted jewelry online.
