Southeastern San Francisco spring fennel

These are pictures from the San Francisco wild fennel zone, which starts in the inner Mission District and runs southwest into the Bayview.

Don't know of any other place where fennel grows wild like this. So luxuriant this time of year. It gets ripped out of places as soon as they're "improved."

  1. Unfortunately, fennel is a non-native invasive species that out-competes local flora.

    It sure smells nice, though.
