Disused streetcar tunnel near Fort Mason

Park shrubbery used to make this tunnel outlet less noticeable. It's the one near the Fort Mason gate at the north end of Laguna Street. Lately re-landscaping has opened it up. We walked past it last weekend.

Doubletake... pause...

"How long has that been there?"

It would be great to see this tunnel put to use again. What if the streetcar kept going from Fisherman's Wharf right through the hill to emerge here, then continued west through the Marina and along restored Crissy Field to the Golden Gate Bridge... Just to start with, such a relief for tired tourists and joggers....

Eh, lots of other things would be great, too. Lots of other things that are probably more important. Just dreaming here.
