For Akin, are women citizens?

I think a lot of the talk about Rep. Akin's "legitimate rape" comment has been merely skimming the surface of some deep and nasty waters. Very possibly, Akin was questioning whether women are entitled to claim their own justice for their own injuries because of their own subjective experiences. More fundamentally, he was questioning whether they are citizens.

I said some of that on Twitter, then pulled my thoughts together in a Storify. Not my usual topic exactly, but as a lawyer much concerned with the nature of property, I tend to notice when property-law concepts are applied to people.
