No, Sandy really did leave 40,000 newly homeless

Earlier thought I'd been overreacting, comparing the evacuation situation to Katrina. But, no, says here there are 40,000 people newly in need of shelter:

So those comments the other day about doing more to get people into vacant subsidized units one by one? Still applicable. Very.

Also, commenter to the above wants to know, "How many foreclosed homes are in the storm region?" Good question.
