'We always sat down. Now, we’ve been standing up.'

Really, really annoying SF Chronicle article -- it goes online Wednesday here -- using the pejorative Elizabethan word "vagrant" over and over to mean street kids.

Seems the Haight-Ashbury sidewalk population, who were the targets of the city's law against sitting on the sidewalk. Seems they're now standing on the sidewalk rather than leaving the sidewalk. A photo caption says one man told the paper that "he stood under an awning for two days after police told him not to sit at Haight Street and Masonic Avenue."

So where exactly did the Chronicle expect them to go?

I predict the major result we'll see from the sit/lie law is more foot and circulation trouble in the free clinics.
